Dr. Speakman graduated from Simon Fraser University with a B.Sc. in Kinesiology in 1987. He worked with the VGH Employee Health Unit in exercise physiology until 1991. After four years of study he graduated with a Doctorate of Chiropractic from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto.
Since entering private practice in 1995 he served as cast chiropractor for the Ford Centre for the Performing Arts (Showboat, Sunset Boulevard, Phantom of the Opera, Ragtime); Bridge Studio Productions (Poltergeist, Outer Limits, Stargate Atlantis); team chiropractor for the Club Adagio and Phoenix Gymnastics clubs in Vancouver and currently treats several members of the Canadian National Synchronized swim team. In addition to having successfully treated thousands of patients for a wide variety of neuro-musculoskeletal injuries and disorders, he has attended several seminars specializing in the treatment and rehabilitative management of musculoskeletal and soft tissue injuries.
In 2005 he was certified as a credentialed provider of Active Release Techniques (ART) and in 2010 he completed his training in Bowen therapy. He also practices Webster turning technique and has turned more than 50 breach babies during his 22 years in private practice.
